What is a Peruzzi cut diamond? In the late 1600s, Venetian cutter Vincenzo Peruzzi is credited with adding extra facets to coax more sparkle out of diamonds, which at the time were mostly table or rose cuts with a gentle, candlelit shimmer. His 58-facet style caught far more fire in the candlelit interiors of the Baroque era, and paved the way for the old mine cut and, eventually, the modern round brilliant. Original Peruzzi cuts are rare today: the very beginning of the brilliant-cut family tree.
