Description
A STUNNING late Victorian crescent brooch, set with a graduated row of old cut diamonds, each one claw-set in yellow gold. The stones step down in size toward each tip, so the whole crescent feels perfectly balanced (and it’s pretty rare to find one in yellow gold!).
Crescents had a major moment in the second half of the 1800s. The Victorians loved anything celestial – the moon stood for femininity, change, intuition and good luck – and wore diamond crescents as brooches, hair ornaments and pendants, usually set with old mine or old European cuts for that soft, romantic sparkle.
Strong proportions, beautifully graduated old cuts, and all the handmade charm we could ask for. This one’s a keeper.
